ATTENTION SAN FRANCISCO RESIDENTS & TOURISTS!!!

ATTENTION SAN FRANCISCO RESIDENTS!!!

If you rent a vacation rental in a residential area in the city of San Francisco, you are breaking the law. If you are a property owner and you are renting in the City of San Francisco a property, "Less than 30 days hotel style rental", it is an illegal rental. Do not rent these units if they are within a residential area in the City of San Francisco less than 30 days! If you are a renter, or a property owner and are having problems with these types of property owners near or next to you, please contact Lois Scott in the Planning and Zoning Department of The City of San Francisco. This information is available on the sforg.com website.

These property owners are breaking the law by renting these units less than 30 days. Period. If you are a citizen having problems or difficulties with one of these units, here are some tips to put a stop to these law breakers.

1) Take screen grabs of the actual pages on the vacation rental websites. VRBO.com is a great place to start. If they are on VRBO.com, they are more than likely on others. Copy some of the text from the ad and Google it. You will be surprised to find out how many sites these people are listing on. Another site you may try is AIRBNB.com

2) Photograph the rental cars for evidence of the length of stays, and or people taking luggage in and out of the property.

3) Write your local San Francisco Supervisor and the President of the Board of Supervisors about this abuse and detail how it is effecting your home. Noise, abuse of utilities, trash, water, etc.

4) Contact Lois Scott in the Zoning and Planning Department and she will forward you to the person in charge of your quadrant of the city.

5) If there are issues to contact the police for, ie, noise after 10:00pm, etc. call the non emergency line and file a complaint. The more evidence you have the better.

6) Go to craigslist.com and do a search for your neighborhood in the Vacation Rentals on the home page under housing. You will be shocked how many are illegally renting in your neighborhood. Flag every ad in your neighborhood. Contact Craigslist and ask them to please stop allowing people to list these illegal rentals.

The more evidence you have to fight with the better your case.

These types of rentals are becoming illegal all over the country. There is a reason hotel districts are where they are. Please stop these property owners from slowly turning our neighborhoods into motel zones, and erasing the village type charm of wonderful San Francisco by additionally spiking the rent higher in the city by removing these units from the market. People should be able to live in their own communities.

I love San Francisco, and I am not going to stop this fight. Please join me, and leave our neighborhoods as they are, residential neighborhoods.

The only way to not have it show up on this blog is to not open it in the first place, or close it before I find it.

The only way I will remove a listing from this site, is if the property owner stops illegally renting their property less than 30 days in a residential area. Period.

This property is still being illegally rented, and these complaints will be refiled within the year of 2011. By the dates of the reviews on the vrbo.com site, it seems someone did, allegedly, not tell the truth to the planning & Zoning Department of San Francisco.
